The Underdog response to criticism from fans and the media
“Criticism from fans and the media is certainly something you have to deal with as a fighter but you have to learn to just let it roll off of you. It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks; it’s what you believe in your heart that’s most important. I’ve certainly been dealing with those types of comments for most of my career,” Couture explains. “With my age, everyone is wondering when the other shoe is going to drop and when enough is enough. They want to scrutinize and question every time I compete whether I win or lose. Unfortunately fans and the media are fickle and you’re only as good as your last victory in their eyes. What they don’t think about is that what makes our sport special in comparison to other professional sports is that it’s a rarity to see a fighter go undefeated; every top level fighter loses at some point.”
I remember watching Couture vs Sylvia at UFC 68. I thought that Couture didn’t have a chance, but he pulled it off and came out with a victory. I am very excited to see him fight tomorrow night.
