On December 6th, UFC announced that there will be new coaches for the very first run of the show on the FX channel. There will also be some changes to the format of the show.

Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz will square off as Cruz battles to retain the bantamweight title for a third time.

There is a lot of speculation over which new coaches will be added to the fights.

Although both of the fighters are mellow mannered, the bantamweight title will be hanging in the balance.

The history between the two fighters should make the fight a nail biter. As UFC continues to make changes, the fights should still bring in huge audiences across the United States and around the world.

Taking a look at past fights I’ve watched of Rick Story, I realized that the fighter has little formal training in MMA situations besides eclectic wrestling from grade school and college. Story does not posses any belts in any discipline, and is not an NCAA wrestler.

While such a situation is definitely rare in the UFC, it does pose the question: Is extensive formal training even needed?

Story is staying competitive without it. Other fighters have come in with low belts in their disciplines and beaten out far more decorated and experienced people. A multitude of accolades and belts in many disciplines weren’t enough to save Mauricio Rua from defeat earlier.

I dunno. It’s kind of a toss up. There’s no question that training aids in conditioning fighters and giving them a style to work with, but it might not be mandatory.

When matched up with experienced fighters in trained disciplines, my gut feeling is to lean away from Story based on his experience and stats, but it is highly interesting that someone without extensive formal training (especially in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) can be competitive in the UFC. Check out our others posts we’ve written about Rick Story.

Just a reminder! UFC 136 is on Saturday! The fight is gonna feature Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard for the Lightweight Championship!

The fight is expected to be a close one, as these two giants go at each other…. again. The fight is also going to feature a lot of preliminary fights on the card, featuring a wide assortment of talent. Put simply, it is gonna be an entertainment blowout that showcases what the UFC is all about!

This one is going to be difficult to predict, given the history of these fighters and the way that chance has played a role in their meetings in the past. Suffice to say, it will be an interesting fight that will not be able to be fully predicted, but it should be volatile enough to entertain everyone watching.

On Saturday December third Michael “The Count” Bisping and Jason “Mayhem” Miller will go head to head at the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. On December 3rd, 2011 the two fighters will be able to settle a feud that has been building up for months now.

Not only will these two rivals be able to face off in their five-round main event in Vegas, the first bantamweight and featherweight winners from The Ultimate Fighter will be crowned. The winner of this fight will not only leave with bragging rights, but will prove that he deserves to be fighting with people like Anderson Silva.

Find tickets to this fight online or buy the tickets on pay-per-view. You do not want to miss this fight. If you cannot find a way to make it out to Vegas or you do not have pay-per-view you will want to find a local bar that will show the fight.

On September 17, 2011 Jake Shields and Jack Ellenberger will go head to head at the UFC Fight Night 25. There were many people that did not think Shields would continue with the fight because of the recent death of his father, who was also his manager.

Jack Shields passed away on August 29th in his sleep at his home in Sacramento California.

Jack had been his son’s manager since 2002. Although he was skeptical about managing his son’s career, he took the reigns and helped Jake promote himself and further his career.

There is a lot of talk about the fight between Shields and Ellenberger. Both excellent fighters, it will be a fight worth watching.

Well, here’s a quick update on UFC 133. Phil Davis has been injured badly enough to require him to withdraw from the fight. In his place has been called Tito Ortiz, who will face off against Rashad Evans in the ring.

Such a cancellation is a disappointment, because Phil Davis is truly one of the rising stars of the UFC and has built up a truly impressive amount of inertia. Davis leaving the fight will obviously change up Rashad Evan’s strategy for what needs to be done to win.

The fight still goes down on the 6th of August. In the coming days and weeks, we’ll provide short bios of the fighters and then do predictions about who will win the fight and go home a champion.

Rashad Evans will take on Phil Davis in the Octagon for UFC 133, defending his light heavyweight title. The fight is oging down in Philadelphia, and tickets are already sold out. However, those of use who are a hair more cash strapped can always watch on pay per view.

The fight goes down on August 6th, and it should be good. Evans is a heavy hitter, but Phil Davis is in the middle of a meteoric rise in the UFC, having a perfect record so far. Both men have a lot on the line with this one.

So it turns out that something happened during UFC Live 4 I didn’t predict. Like, at all.

So, Nate Marquardt was all set up to fight Rick Story over the weekend. The fight was set. Both competitors were fairly evenly matched. It was looking like it would be intense.

And then it was announced that Marquardt had been dropped from the UFC due to some suspicious tests that were performed. The fight never happened, and instead we got some drama. Marquardt is of course insisting that the tests turned up a false positive for a medical condition, and that he is awaiting reinstatement.

So, there you have it. I predicted that Story would win it, and Marquardt got dropped form the UFC on doping allegations. Sooooooo….. I was kind of right. I only wish I was surprised. Say whatever else you want about the UFC, but it has hardly been a shining beacon of integrity when it comes to drugs.

Righto! There’s a UFC Live Fight on Sunday, and its time for some predictions!

The fight is gonna pit Nate Marquardt against Rick Story! The fight actually looks fairly evenly balanced, so it should be pretty good to watch.

Nate Marquadt ahs been fighting for much longer than, having accrued over triple the fights that Rick Story has. Although Story has a better win/ loss ration, Marquardt is bringing years of experience to the table, and has been humbled enough to be cautiously dangerous.

Hmmm… This one is a toss up. As much as I want the older and more experienced veteran to win, the UFC is nothing if not benevolent to upstarts. The recent smashing victories of the younger fighters over the more established ones makes me think that Story will probably win it. I’m not sure I like that it will probably happen, but better stats and younger blood makes for a potent combination.
